Vashon Island

Took myself on a little getaway last weekend at Vashon Island! The island is located in Washington, about a 3 hour drive from Portland. It was so relaxing and a really special staycation! Keep reading to check out my itinerary on this cute little island.

In order to get to Vashon Island, you have to ride a ferry at Port Defiance in Tacoma. You basically drive your car onto the ferry and it takes 15-20 minutes to get there (costs about $20 per vehicle for roundtrip)! It's a short trip but enough time to walk around the ferry and get some fresh air. There's also bathrooms and some vending machines on the ferry as well.

Once I got to the island, I had some time before my check-in at my hotel so I decided to head to Snapdragon Bakery & Cafe to pick up some treats for the weekend! Snapdragon is a local brunch spot with fresh pastries and good food.

Then it was time to check into The Lodges on Vashon! The lodge was such a unique stay with modern features surrounded by nature! Each contemporary lodge features keyless entry, king size beds, a fireplace, tv, mini-fridge, bathroom with heated floors, and french doors that lead to a private patio. Everything in the lodge from the soap to the coffee are all sourced from the local vendors on Vashon Island too!

My favorite part of The Lodges on Vashon were the geodesic domes! There are two different domes that are available to rent either for the day or evening. Both domes are furnished, have a HEPA air filter, heater, electricity, and wifi! One of the domes is perfect for meals, working from home, activities and the other dome is more like a living room, perfect for a happy hour or a cute date idea! It was a really cool experience and I loved every second of it!

The entire property had photo ops at every corner. One of my favorite spots was The Pavilion, it was a great open-air space with heaters that's perfect for hanging out during the day and there was a cozy fireplace at night. There was corn hole and other games like ladder ball you can play too. They even had communal refrigerators, sinks, dishwasher, and bathrooms so it has everything you need for any event! I absolutely loved all of the decor and furniture too, especially the hanging chairs!

After chillin at the property for most of the day, I went to the Port Robinson Lighthouse about a 15 minute drive from the hotel so my dog Rufus can get a good run in. It was a really pretty lighthouse on a 10 acre beach! The tours were closed due to COVID but it was still nice to just walk around on the beach. There was a ton of agates and shells to check out there and it was a good place to watch the sunset.

For dinner I got takeout from May Kitchen + Bar! I heard so many good things about this Thai restaurant and I had to try it! I ordered the Tom Yum Soup and Pad See Iew, it did not disappoint! The food was really good and tasted authentic. I also ordered a cocktail to go and it came in a huge glass jug, after adding ice it was basically two drinks! Loved it.

Now for the most magical part, back at The Lodges on Vashon the geodesic domes at night! It was such a vibe. The dome was so romantic at night with the fairy lights and the heater kept it nice and cozy. It was the perfect place for a night cap and some chocolate. I played some music and just chilled inside the domes, it was so relaxing and peaceful. Not sure which one I liked more, the domes in the daytime or the domes at night... They were both amazing!

This was such a perfect little getaway weekend that was not too far from home. I loved my stay and thought the domes were such a cool feature, you have to check them out if you are ever visit Vashon Island! I would love to go back and explore the island some more. The island was super quaint and everyone in town was super nice. Vashon Island is truly a gem in the Pacific Northwest!
