Newport, Oregon

There is something so refreshing after spending a weekend at the coast. I spent the last weekend at the Agate Beach Motel in Newport, Oregon and had the best time! Newport is about a 2 hour drive from Portland and the place we stayed at is right on the Oregon coast! Keep reading to check out my experience.

Agate Beach Motel offers oceanfront suites that include a full kitchen, a cozy living room area with an electric fireplace, and amazing decks with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Not only did this place have everything you need, it was also pet friendly! So Rufus came along to the coast with me.

It was amazing to wake up to the sound of the ocean and enjoy my coffee from the private deck, actually every meal on the deck was just epic. We booked the Premier Queen Suite which had a direct ocean view and a private carport to the side of the room. The rooms were super cozy and the beds were really comfortable. While all of the rooms technically have an oceanfront view, but the Premier Queen Suite faced the ocean straight on versus the other rooms, the ocean is on the left of the deck and your car is parked in front of the deck as well so the view is a bit obscured. But honestly, all of the rooms were great and unique.

I am not sure which was more amazing, the misty morning or the amazing sunset but there was something so mystical about the mornings. It was a super dreamy walk down the private stairs to the beach. The fog covered most of the trees and it was so moody and peaceful, I could spend every morning there.

Newport has plenty of options for food with grocery stores, Chinese food, Thai food, Mexican food, fast food, everything you can think of. But we didn't want to leave the property so we got a pizza delivered! You really can't go wrong with that. But there was a fully functional kitchen at the motel with pots/pans and silverware so you can also cook a meal a the motel too!

Once the mist cleared away, the afternoon was nice and sunny. My favorite part of the property was the private stairway to Agate Beach. The views were just epic and there are lawn chairs and picnic areas for you to enjoy and watch the sunrise and sunsets. It was a short walk down and you are at the beach!

Once you get down to Agate Beach, it is a fairly quiet and non-busy beach with amazing cliff views. There were a lot of surfers out on the water, a tide pool to explore, and dogs running around. It was great to let Rufus get his energy out and play in the water. We went in October and the weather was absolutely perfect and the water wasn't too cold! I would say October is the best time to go visit!

SUNSETS WERE THE VIBE. Such a gorgeous sunset to enjoy from the property! Grab a bottle of wine and watch the sun go down behind the cliffs. It was so relaxing and it was such an amazing place to unwind. Once the sun goes down, have a bonfire! The property sets up a campfire for you around 5pm and they even sell s'more kits!

Overall, the Agate Beach Motel was simple, comfy, and cozy. It was a no frills motel with friendly staff and the location was EVERYTHING. The dogs really enjoyed the place too, the motel was very considerate providing dog bowls, blankets, towels, and even a dog rinsing station so that they can clean off. There's pet free rooms too if that's more your thing. I absolutely loved my stay here and 10/10 am going to come and stay here again! If you want to stay on the Oregon coast and want to do something more intimate than the popular Cannon Beach, then Agate Beach Motel in Newport is the place!
