Phú Quốc is a Vietnamese island off the coast of Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand. It's known for white-sand beaches and resorts. It's such a hidden gem! While I was working in Ho Chi Minh for 3 weeks, I took a solo trip to Phú Quốc for the weekend. It was one of the most relaxing and luxurious vacations that I have ever been on.
To get to Phú Quốc, I flew in from Ho Chi Minh, the flight was about an hour long. Since I worked Monday-Friday, I decided to fly out early Saturday morning at 7am and come back on Sunday at 9pm at night, that way I had two whole days to enjoy in Phú Quốc.
*Some tips! If you are departing from Ho Chi Minh airport, make sure to go early because the security line is very long. Also, since I went solo, I brought my camera tripod with me to take photos. Make sure to check the tripod or put it in a checked luggage because security will not let you through with it. Once you land in the Phú Quốc airport, someone at the exit will check your luggages to make sure it matches the luggage tag, which I thought was a pretty cool security check to ensure no one steals your luggage. If you take a taxi, make sure to bring cash because not all the taxis will take credit card!
I chose to stay at the InterContinental Resort, it was brand new luxury hotel with amazing bath tubs and balconies with an ocean view or pool view in every suite. The main reason why I chose this resort was because of the pool, the pool nests, the hammocks, and the private beach.
There are 459 rooms, residence suites, and villas at the InterContinental. I chose the standard king room with the ocean view balcony. My favorite things about the room was eating lunch on the balcony with the epic view, the bath tub, and watching the sunrise from bed.
The resort had a private beach, hammocks, kayaks, paddle boards, and amazing pool nests. I literally spent hours just lounging in every type of chair they could offer. It really was such a relaxing and amazing resort.
Sunsets are Everything.
Phú Quốc sunsets are so beautiful, finding a good place to watch the sunset is key! I had already spent the entire day at the resort so I decided to go outside of the resort to a couple beach clubs!
Grab a taxi and head to the Golden Sand Bar for a unique concept bar with some chill house music, beach chairs, swings, cute installations for photos, and drinks!
The second beach club I went to was the Sunset Sanato Beach Club which is right next to the Golden Sand Bar. It was just opened January 2019, an architect named Nikita Marshunok designed this outdoor bar. I am a huge Salvador Dali fan and the Dali inspired elephant sculptures was the selling point for me to catch the sunset there.
Around the Sunset Sanato Beach Club are a ton of beautiful art installations and tree houses. Everywhere you turn there were photo ops! You can also jet ski, kayak, and take a private boat tour. They also play deep house music and turns into a dance party at night.
Once the sun went down, I spent the rest of the night back at the Intercontinental Resort and ate at a restaurant called Lava. A huge bamboo designed restaurant with amazing seafood sourced from local fisherman each day and imported steaks. The staff was so friendly and make sure I was entertained as I was dining solo.
The last day I just took a little break and hung out at the resort pool and private beach. I also did some paddle boarding and caught up on my reading. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant to travel here solo at first but I was so glad I did. Sometimes you need to just unwind with no other agenda but your own.
